Conception Convo with Ashley Hopper

Welcome to the Conception Convos: a series of recorded conversations about conception and the many roads that people take on their journeys to create their families. My goal is for people to share their stories in a raw and mostly unedited way (not just because I’m not a video editor, ha!) so that others can find solace and inspiration from their experiences, and most importantly, know that they are not alone on their fertility journeys.

Today’s interview is extra special for me, because I get to feature a dear friend: Ashley Hopper! Ashley and I met on our first day in the dorms during our freshman year of college and have since had many adventures (and misadventures). I am so honored to share her story here.

After experiencing three miscarriages within 18 months and receiving a diagnosis of unexplained recurrent miscarriages, Ashley and her husband, Danny, welcomed their son, Jack, in May 2017. Their dreams of becoming parents were fulfilled, however, their hearts were still healing from their previous losses. In the summer of 2019, they decided to try to become pregnant again but unfortunately experienced another miscarriage in late October. In February 2020, they heard a strong heart beat at their 7-week ultrasound and welcomed a healthy baby girl, Natalie, in September 2020.

Watch or listen to Ashley’s interview for:

  • insight into the emotional experience of unexplained miscarriage

  • how a challenging journey to conceive affects the postpartum time

  • learning the importance of self-care when trying to conceive (and parent!)

Ashley shares her story in a clear and relatable way - as always, feel free to share with anyone who may benefit!
